Hormone-Free Solution

A copper IUD is an effective alternative to oral contraceptives. The Flexi-T IUD may be the hormone-free contraceptive solution that’s right for your patient. We are proud to offer a safe, over 99% effective contraception option that prevents unwanted pregnancy without the hormonal side effects. With the Flexi-T, the patient has less than 1% risk of pregnancy. Our copper IUD is more reliable than the birth control pill and the condom combined!

The Problem With Hormonal Contraceptives

When it comes to preventing pregnancy, there has been a common misconception that hormonal birth control is the only effective option. Common side effects of hormonal contraceptives include:

  • Nausea
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Weight Gain
  • Breast Tenderness
  • Acne
  • Mood Changes
  • Decreased Libido
  • Spotting Between Periods
  • Higher Risk of Blood Clots

In addition, with oral contraceptives there is an increase potential for user-error. Forgetting to take one pill can lead to unwanted pregnancy.

Flexi-T: The 100% Hormone-Free Contraceptive Solution

The Flexi-T is a copper IUD which is a safe and effective alternative to the more common hormonal options. The copper IUD can provide relief for patients who find hormonal side effects undesirable. With IUDs the patient does not have to worry about remembering to take a pill each day. Our 100% hormone-free copper IUD provides better contraception protection than the birth control pill and condom combined.

Since the Flexi-T IUD delivers protection against unwanted pregnancy for five years, the patient can have complete control over their reproductive health. As soon as the patient desires to remove the IUD, it can be done with one appointment. Unlike with a hormonal option, with a copper IUD, once it is removed fertility returns immediately.

Pregnancy Protection Without Hormones: How Does Flexi-T Work?

Flexi-T is a small, flexible, T-shaped plastic (polypropylene) device with smooth, rounded tips and pure copper tubing. The long-term, hormone-free contraceptive device is available in different sizes to accommodate the needs of women of all sizes and ages. After the physician inserts Flexi-T into the uterus, the IUD’s copper releases traces of copper into the uterus, effectively preventing sperm cells from reaching the egg, which prevents the fertilization process.

In the highly unlikely event that fertilization of the egg occurs, the copper prevents the egg from uterine wall implantation. Flexi-T begins working immediately after insertion, which makes the device an ideal option for emergency contraception and a safe “morning after” solution without hormonal side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Are the Side Effects of a Copper IUD?

The most common side effect of a copper IUD is cramping or pain that can occur during the insertion and removal process. Other possible side effects include spotting between periods, increased menstrual pain, and an initial increase in menstrual flow. In rare cases, the device may move out of place or puncture the uterus wall, so it’s important to talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have before getting one. Additionally, an allergic reaction to the copper in the IUD is possible but very rare. Symptoms of an allergic reaction could include a rash or swelling of the vagina and vulva area.

  • Can A Patient Get Pregnant with a Copper IUD?

It is very unlikely to become pregnant with a copper IUD. However, it is possible to get pregnant with a copper IUD. While it is one of the most effective methods of contraception available, there is still a small chance of becoming pregnant. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, there is less than 1% chance of getting pregnant while using this contraceptive option. However, it should be noted that this number can vary due to factors like age and health status. Copper IUDs provide a long-term form of contraception that can last up to 5 years — but it's still important for women to be aware of their chances for becoming pregnant when using this contraceptive device.

  • Is a Copper IUD Safer Than Hormonal Birth Control?

The short answer is yes. A copper IUD is non-hormonal and is considered one of the safest forms of birth control available. It does not have the same risks associated with hormonal contraceptives such as estrogen and progestin, which can cause side effects like nausea and headaches in some users. The copper IUD also doesn't carry the risk of blood clots that come with other hormonal contraceptives, making it a safe option for many women. Additionally, a Copper IUD can be used continuously for up to 5-10 years, providing long-term protection without any hormones. For these reasons, many individuals consider a copper IUD to be a safer choice than hormonal birth control methods.

  • Do You Still Ovulate with a Copper IUD?

Yes, you can still ovulate when using a copper IUD. The copper ions in the device are released into your uterus to prevent sperm from surviving and reaching an egg for fertilization. However, some of the hormones produced during ovulation—which are necessary for the release of an egg—are not disabled by the IUD. Therefore, while you may still ovulate, it is highly unlikely that you will become pregnant with a copper IUD in place. It is important to have regular checkups with your doctor to ensure that your IUD is properly placed and functioning as expected.

  • What to Expect After a Copper IUD Insertion?

After having a copper IUD inserted, you may experience some mild cramping, spotting or light bleeding. You may also feel some discomfort in your uterus or lower abdomen. This is normal and should subside after a few days. For heavy bleeding or severe pain, contact your health care provider as soon as possible. The hormonal version of the IUD causes different type of side-effects. For example,  some women may start to feel anxious or anxious-like symptoms—such as depression—while using a hormonal IUD, talk to your healthcare provider right away so they can help adjust your dose or make other changes to better suit your needs.
